Our Training and Services

Workshops and Training

We believe that whilst it is necessary to know the skills and knowledge needed to work with death and dying, it is not possible for us to feel truly confident and competent to do so without exploring our own relationship with death. CDCD workshops provide a supportive space for health and social care professionals to explore this, increasing their awareness of their own personal barriers to developing death competency and equipping them to provide high quality end of life care.

You can find out more about the content of our training below or contact us to discuss how we can create bespoke workshops to meet your needs.

Staff Support Groups

Workshops and Training

Workshops and Training

There is growing recognition of the need for improved support for professionals who work with death and dying to reduce the risk of burnout. We know that this does not have to mean more hours of support, but instead more effective support formats.

We co-design staff support groups and offerings with you and involve staff in this process to ensure their needs are met. This in turn  provides value for you as their employer and our strong belief in the importance of evaluation means that you will have the reassurance and data to evidence this every step of the way.

Consultancy

Consultancy

Our consultancy services incorporate expertise from health psychology, end-of-life doula approaches centring the humanness of both professionals, and extensive knowledge of how to promote death competency development in healthcare settings. We work in collaboration with our clients, respecting that you know the needs of your staff teams better than anyone and always providing a range of support options for you to choose from.

A shared vision is always the starting point for our work, and we offer a highly flexible service enabling our clients to use our knowledge to develop their own tools and offerings which will continue to benefit their staff and those they support for years to come.

Workshop and Training Content

The following is the standard topic content of our death competency workshops - we aim to tailor this following our initial conversations with you about your needs

  • What is death competency, how this links to death literacy and why is it important for us as healthcare professionals?
  • Identifying our own personal starting point for development - what am I comfortable with and what challenges me?
  • It starts with us - exploring our own wishes and preferences around death and dying
  • Growth - how to work at the edge of our comfort zone and recognising what we need in order to do so, how to promote death competency development as we work in this space
  • Practice - having death competent conversations, co-creating a death competent environment for ourselves, our colleagues, and those we support
  • Reflections and next steps - how to ensure we continue to develop our confidence and competence around death and dying

All workshops can include follow-up sessions and/or support groups, and can be delivered in person or online.
